Abstract
Some patients complaint of altered sensation in the teeth or gums following surgery of nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. The area affected by pain or paresthesia which is considered to the transection of delicate nerve endings or stretch injury
of the
infraorbital nerve, nasopalatine nerve or alveolar nerves appears to be anatomically related to the surgical procedures performed. The subjects of investigation were the 149 consecutive patients who underwent a total of 210 surgical procedures of
nasal
cavity and paranasal sinuses and the authors analyzed the relationship between surgery and altered dental sensation periodically. It is now our practice to decrease the complication and to warn patients of this complication when they consent
preoperatively. (Korean J Otolaryngol 39 : 5, 1996)
